Twitter Chat Recap: #Purclean w/ Tide & USDA

By Marissa Rosen

Today, Procter & Gamble, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and TriplePundit came together at #purclean to discuss how renewables can replace traditional materials in products while still delivering on performance, and discussed why P&G is now introducing Tide purclean with 65 percent bio-based content. We heard from Kristen Stutz (Brand Manager, Tide) and Todd Cline (Research and Development, Tide), along with Kate Lewis (Deputy Program Manager of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s BioPreferred Program).

For over 70 years, Tide has been changing the way we do laundry and continually delivering the clean customers expect. At the same time, innovations in bio-based materials are providing opportunities to replace traditional, non-renewable materials without creating a performance tradeoff. Bio-based products have proven successful, and Tide has adopted bio-based as the next step in its sustainability journey.

Here's the full synopsis of the Twitter Chat conversation that took place today!

Bio-based materials are growing in use with the help of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s BioPreferred program and its USDA Certified Biobased Product label. Still, many people are not aware of what a bio-based product is or what the BioPreferred label means.

A shift away from petroleum-based to renewable content has a number of benefits. And as more people become aware and call for companies to adopt bio-based materials, the environmental and economic benefits will continue to grow. We delved deep into this topic in advance of Tide purclean's release in retailers across the U.S. beginning in May 2016.

During #purclean, we answered the following, and much more:

  • What are bio-based products?

  • What is the USDA Bio Preferred program and the Certified Biobased Product Label?

  • What are the benefits of renewable, bio-based materials?

  • Why is P&G introducing, Tide purclean, a detergent with 65% renewable, bio-based content?

  • What barriers are there to more mainstream adoption of bio-based products with consumers?
FEATURED GUESTS:

  • Kate Lewis (@BioPreferred) - Deputy Program Manager of the USDA’s BioPreferred Program
