A government department has won this year’s Sustainability Reporting award in Hong Kong.

The Architectural Services Department took the award jointly with the
transport company MTR, which also won the main prize last year. CLP
Holdings (utilities) and Swire Properties, both also commended last
year, jointly won the environmental reporting award.

The number of entries for the third annual awards for sustainability
reporting, run by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in
Hong Kong, was again low, with 14 companies taking part this year
compared with ten last year.  This compares with 54 entries in
ACCA’s recent Malaysia reporting awards.

The Hong Kong judges complained that too many large companies in the
territory have not converted their environmental reports into fully
fledged sustainability reporting that covers social and economic
impacts as well as green issues. They also said the general standard of
social and environmental reporting in Hong Kong was ‘not … on a par
with leading best practice’.
