This month’s merger of the Co-operative Wholesale Society and
Co-operative Retail Services (CRS) should strengthen the ethical stance
and transparency of both operations, senior managers have claimed.
CRS chief executive Andy Meehan said a ‘key part’ in the integration
process would be a new focus on the area of co-operative democracy.
A review board has been set up to recommend a new rule book for the
merged society and to look at ‘democratic representation’ within the
society. It will report by May 2001.
