Some leading companies in Hong Kong’s garment industry have shown progress in reporting on their supply chain labour standards, but the performance of many is poor by international standards, according to Oxfam Hong Kong.

The pressure group’s second survey of the city’s 26 garment makers, entitled Transparency Report II: Have Hong Kong Garment Companies Improved their Reporting on Labour Standards? says improvements are still needed, and adds that more disclosure about labour standards is one way to benefit poor people in developing countries.

Oxfam points out that better labour standards reduce poverty in the workforce. The charity says its surveys are an attempt to promote corporate responsibility in the industry.
